The inspiration of this work was a pilgrimage. In the spring of 2018, I went to northern Spain and walked 300 km of the Camino de Santiago. One of the towns along the way was Najera. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Navarre in the 11th and 12th centuries. In the Monasterio Santa Maria de la Real there is a Royal Pantheon housing the burial place of the many illustrious kings and queens and knights of Navarre. One of the tombs in the crypt was that of Dona Blanca de Castile y Navarre ca 1156. There are beautiful statues on the sarcophagi that depict the deceased Dona Blanca in the full bloom of life. I noticed how many of them were so young. It was thought provoking.
